Board Job Descriptions

Board Positions: In general, all Board positions are working positions above and beyond the job descriptions found here.  Whether as chaperones, washing towels, hauling water, band equipment, flags, or food, the Board is expected to participate in all aspects of the Band Booster program.  There is no better method of leadership than leadership by example.

President-the President works closely with the Band Director and the other Board members throughout the year.  Communication, as well as the ability and the willingness to work with a diverse group of people, is key.   The President is responsible for overseeing the many events and tasks that take place throughout the year.   Remember, the Board and Committee Chairs are a great resource.

Vice President Fundraising-The VP of Fundraising is responsible for running various fundraisers throughout the year, including the WCI program (ads, pictures, content, printing) and fundraiser tent, pre-concert dinners, individual account fundraisers and general band account fundraisers.  The VP of Fundraising will work closely with the Fundraising committee and other volunteers.  Fundraising is a year round responsibility.

VP’s of Concessions-These positions have evolved into VP of Cougar Café and VP of Cougar Grill.  Both positions are responsible for making sure each concession is clean, staffed, stocked, open and ready for business for all home sporting events and any Band events that require a concession.  Inventory has to be managed and money has to be accounted for.  Open lines of communication with the Treasurer, the Phone Committee Chair, the Athletic department AP, and Custodial Managers are essential.  A willingness to be flexible with a focus on continuing a “Best Practices” environment will ensure our concession program’s continued success.

Treasurer-The Treasurer is responsible for all aspects of Durant Music Booster’s finances as well as maintaining integrity and confidence in the position.  Timely management of students’ accounts (billing and payments), the bank account (checks, deposits, reconciliations), expense reporting, provision and reconciliation of cash tills for all events and venues (including WCI), and anticipating the monetary needs of the Band Director and Board all require a consistent and high degree of commitment to excellence.  IRS reporting (Form 990, 1099’s), State of Florida Annual reporting, and safeguarding our tax exempt status are additional responsibilities.

Corresponding Sec’y-The Corresponding Secretary is responsible for writing Thank you letters, donation request letters (especially WCI), and fills in when the Recording Secretary isn’t present to take the minutes of a Booster meeting.  This position will also be responsible for running the Membership drive that runs from summer through October.

Recording Sec’y-The Recording Secretary is responsible for taking the monthly Booster meeting minutes and submitting them to the Web Master to post on the website.  Additionally, the Recording Secretary takes notes at the Board meetings and follows up on plans, keeping everyone on task.
